Introduction

I remember the first time I heard the phrase "sales funnel." I was 16, watching a YouTube video at midnight, and the person on screen was explaining how a business could take a complete stranger and systematically turn them into a paying client. I didn't sleep that night. I just kept watching.

That obsession is what eventually made funnels the core of everything we do at Drome Media. And in this post, I — Naman Dudeja — want to break down exactly how I learned it, what I got wrong, and what actually works.

What a Funnel Actually Is

Most people overcomplicate this. A funnel is just a journey. It takes someone from not knowing you exist to trusting you enough to give you money. Every step of that journey needs to be intentional, designed, and tested.

The classic structure: Awareness → Interest → Decision → Action. But in practice, for the Indian market specifically, it looks more like: Ad → Landing Page → Lead Magnet or VSL → Application Form → Sales Call → Close.

How I Learned: Start With Obsession

I didn't take a course. I studied real funnels. I would click on ads that caught my attention and go through the entire funnel — landing page, email sequence, retargeting ads, everything. I'd take screenshots. I'd write down what made me feel something. I'd note where I dropped off and ask myself why.

That practice alone — deconstructing real funnels — taught me more than any ₹50,000 course ever could.

The First Funnel I Built

The first funnel I built for a client was simple. An ad that spoke to a specific pain point, a landing page with a clear headline and one call-to-action, and a WhatsApp redirect to book a consultation. That's it.

It worked. Not perfectly — conversion was low — but it worked. And more importantly, it showed me what to fix. The headline wasn't specific enough. The landing page loaded too slowly. The CTA button was below the fold on mobile.

"The core skill is not building perfect funnels — it's building and improving fast."

The 3-Part Framework I Use at Drome Media Today

After building dozens of funnels across different industries, here's the framework that consistently works.

Part 1 — The Hook (Ad Creative): Your ad has one job — stop the scroll. It needs to speak to a specific person about a specific pain in the first 3 seconds. Not clever. Not branded. Specific and painful.

Part 2 — The Bridge (Landing Page): Your landing page has one job — create enough trust and desire that the person takes the next step. One headline. One sub-headline. Social proof. One CTA. No distractions. No navigation menu.

Part 3 — The Qualifier (Form or VSL): Before a sales call, filter your leads. A short form with qualifying questions — budget, timeline, specific problem — saves everyone time and ensures your calendar is full of people who can actually buy.

The Biggest Mistakes I See Indian Founders Make

Mistake 1: Sending ad traffic to their homepage. Your homepage is for people who already know you. Your ad is for strangers. Send strangers to a dedicated landing page built for one specific offer.

Mistake 2: Too many CTAs. One page, one action. The more choices you give people, the fewer decisions they make.

Mistake 3: No follow-up system. 80% of sales happen after the 5th follow-up. If you don't have a WhatsApp or email sequence following up with leads, you're losing most of your money on the table.

Where Funnels Are Going in India

The Indian digital market is maturing fast. Customers are getting savvier. The days of a basic landing page and a Facebook ad printing money are narrowing. What's working now — and what we build at Drome Media — is full-stack funnel architecture: ads, landing pages, VSLs, email sequences, retargeting, and a CRM that tracks every lead through the pipeline.

It's more complex. But for founders who get it right, the results are extraordinary.
